The Audience

Last summer, between the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Montauk Point, New York more than 73,000,000 people spent at least a day on the beach. Most of them, in fact, spent several days on the beach. In New Jersey alone, more than 400,000 seasonal beach badges were sold. Another 15,351,788 people attended major theme parks and sporting events in this same region.

How do we know this? We counted them. Beach attendance was compiled with the assistance of the U.S. Park Service, Park Services of States within the region, municipalities selling beach badges, lifeguard stations, as well as visitor and convention bureaus at the major resorts. The attendance at theme parks was compiled from Amusement Business magazine and the attendance at sporting events from the individual teams and stadiums.

We didn't just count them, either. We studied them. We learned important patterns about their beach vacations. We also learned where they came to the beach from, their marital status, how many children they arrive with, as well as their ages and income levels.

What we have learned is of enormous importance to you - the advertiser.
