The original PEPSI-COLA skywriting concept was conceived in 1934 between the
PEPSI company and S.S. PIKE & CO., a New York sales agent that
represented numerous aerial advertising companies.
In New York, the skywriting concept was
introduced, with very favorable consumer awareness and acceptance. As many
as nine planes were utilized from the Mid-West through the New England
states until the start of WWII.
After the end of this global war - PEPSI
renewed their SKY-HIGH advertising campaign for an additional nine years,
utilizing fifteen planes covering the entire U.S., the Carribean, and South
America. Numerous contractors were engaged, included Cecil Coffrins SKY
ADVERTISING CORPORATION and Andy Stenniss SKY WRITING CORPORATION OF
AMERICA:.
The skywriters were the last of the
barnstormers, flying their way across the skies, intriguing their audiences
with their style, charisma and their excellent penmanship as they wrote with
a giant white marker on the tremendous blue blackboard we called their
sky.
For those who knew them, loved them. Were
proud of the heritage, the memories and the tradition in which we follow.
They will always be the GHOST RIDERS IN THE SKY.
